Drehfehler
Ve.Sch Kunstverein, Wien, 2026
Ausstellungsansichten / exhibition views
The exhibition Drehfehler took place on the occasion of the Ve.Sch.’s grand reopening. The exhibition space had not yet been fully furnished, so the presentation took place
amid the chaos of the move—a situation it also addressed. Temporary arrangements
and scenarios of a new beginning intersect with elements that look back to the past.
The metal shelf, designed and built by Martin Vesely, the operator of Ve.Sch., was already in the previous space and now serves not as storage for glassware but as a display for three video works. It is temporarily secured and positioned at a distance from the wall,
creating a narrow corridor between the shelf and the wall.
The video AV, 1.2 focuses on a building shell from above, zooming in and then out again. Without a roof, the interior of the structure is vulnerable to the view from above. The video addresses, not least, the voyeuristic perspective of a drone on this new beginning. As it rotates, the floor plan corresponds with the grid of the shelf.
The video sleeping fly, visible on a tablet placed on the shelf, offers a look back. It shows a scene in the former Ve.Sch. when the shelf was still intended for glasses and beverages. One waits for the fly’s flight, but it is sleeping.
On the other tablet, an excerpt from DK closed chamber close up is playing—another
reflective work that is discussed in greater detail later in this documentation.
The drawing titled Ve.Sch-Floorplan was created as part of the planning process. Martin Vesely produced this quick floor plan sketch of the room from memory for general orientation. It is mounted on a mirror so that the sketched room is visible in it. The work corresponds to the aerial view of the building shell.
